The ultimate draw of this film for me was Daniel Day-Lewis announcing it would be his last role. Paul Thomas Anderson is a master filmmaker, and I've enjoyed his work in the past, I just wasn't all that interested in Phantom Thread based on what I knew about it. I enjoyed it as I watched, but as I reflect, it's hard to think of anything that stands out. The directorial prowess of PTA is still sharp as ever, but his touch is softer and more subdued than his previous work. The plot is intriguing, but there wasn't much depth there for me. It seems like a lot of others enjoyed this film, but it felt pretty average to me. I think the soundtrack/score is pretty good so that I could recommend. As you can tell by the size of this review in comparison to others I've posted, I don't have much insight. Like I usually say in reviews this size, it may be that I was in the wrong state of mind for the content, and nothing stuck for me. In the future, I should give this film a second chance. I would recommend this to any Day-Lewis fans because his performance is still as good as ever.
