Scorsese is one of the most talented directors of all time. However, his films often don't have staying power in my mind. Raging Bull is no exception. An incredibly powerful film about self-confidence and masculinity. Stunning visuals, impeccable performances and masterful editing, all aspects that have solidified Raging Bull as a classic. When I reflect on the film now, I see the gorgeous fight sequences in stunning black and white, but it's a visual imprint. The themes of trust and self-loathing permeate my recollection, but I can't remember how the film concludes. I know that doesn't make for an adequate review. I do know whoever this film is an example of masters at their craft, in their primes; De Niro, Scorsese and Schrader. I can easily recommend to any movie lovers and cinephiles who haven't seen it. I'd also urge myself and anyone who's had Raging Bull become a faded memory from their past, give it another watch.
