Affairs and attempted suicide have never been so entertaining. With the acute skill of Billy Wilder's direction and writing, The Apartment is charming and translates well decades later. Jack Lemon has undoubtedly become one of my favourite actors of his time, and his performance here is one for the ages. This was another blind spot of mine, and I was pleased with the entertainment value I got out of it. As I slowly work through my back catalogue of films I've seen but not reviewed this year, it becomes apparent how differently I watch movies now. The Apartment is a beautiful film, and it deserves all the love and admiration it receives. I would recommend to anyone trying to explore more classic Hollywood cinema.
