I don’t think anyone would disagree that this movie is a classic. Most everything there is to say about The Sound of Music has already been said. Often I would talk about the themes in the film and how they resonated with me. In this case, the film doesn’t reveal that much about the human condition. The film, however, washes you with a feeling of joy amidst a world that’s rather bleak. Julie Andrews plays a chipper nun whose mood can’t seem to be sullied by the world around her. This blaring optimism in the face of some pretty horrible situations makes for a very heartwarming musical. Accompanied by beautiful cinematography through gorgeous sets and landscapes, The Sound of Music warms the soul. I would recommend to any fans of musicals which have somehow missed this one.
